Zodiac Sign Calculator

Check the conventional Western tropical sun-sign range for a birthday.

All 12 conventional ranges

This is a popular-astrology reference. It does not calculate an astronomical constellation position or a full natal chart.

What this tool is actually looking up

The calculator takes the month and day of the birthday and compares it with the conventional date ranges used for the twelve signs of the Western tropical zodiac. It is a simple calendar lookup. The birth year does not change which range is selected, although the date input asks for a complete date because that is the standard browser control.

Why the wording “Western tropical zodiac” matters

Different astrological systems use different frameworks. This page uses the familiar Aries-through-Pisces tropical sun-sign ranges common in Western popular astrology. It is not a sidereal zodiac calculator, a Chinese zodiac calculator, or a calculation of which astronomical constellation the Sun physically appeared in on the birth date.

What the element and planet fields mean

The element and ruling-planet labels are traditional astrology associations attached to each sign. They are included because people commonly look for those references alongside a sun sign. The short trait descriptions are likewise traditional popular-astrology keywords, not scientifically established personality measurements and not a prediction of an individual's character.

Birthdays near a sign boundary

Popular sun-sign lists often publish fixed ranges such as 21 March to 19 April for Aries. More detailed astrology calculations can place a sign transition at a particular time that varies by year and timezone. This quick tool deliberately uses the conventional fixed ranges shown on the page. Someone born very close to a boundary who wants an astrology chart should use a specialist birth-chart service with birth time and location.

Useful ways to use the page

It is handy for checking a sign while writing a birthday card, comparing the conventional ranges for several birthdays, making themed party material, or satisfying a quick “what sign is that date?” question without scrolling through a long article. The complete twelve-sign list beside the calculator also lets you check adjacent ranges without repeatedly changing the date.

A calendar reference, not life advice

The result should be treated as entertainment and cultural reference material. It should not be used to make medical, financial, employment, relationship or other consequential decisions about a person. For ordinary calendar questions about birthdays, use the Birthday Countdown or Age Calculator instead.
